Brian and I were roommates and usually the best of friends when we were stationed in Cold Lake during the 60s. As well as being my buddy, Brian was like a bodyguard to all us Supply guys. He was our Hulk Hogan....nobody would dare threaten any of us when were in Brian's presence.....he was a 5'9" giant......his protection of us also meant that he got lots of free beer. We were together in Trenton and Ottawa and he followed me to Summerside PEI after his commissioning, where he assumed the same job that I had vacated several years earlier.
I would visit Brian and Donna whenever I was in St Johns and we three would spend quality time reminiscing about the good times in Cold Lake where money was scarce but beer was cheap.
Donna, I was there in Cold Lake when you and Brian were an item and truly admired the love and devotion you felt for one another....an undiminished love that lasted throughout your lives together.
I will always cherish my memories of Brian and often reflect upon the many things we did together.....wondering with astonishment how we avoided being residents of the guard house.
My deepest condolences to Donna, Catherine, Martin and the Canning family for your great loss.

My condolences to the Canning family of Placentia. I knew all 9 brothers and got to see a lot of Brian after he retired from the military. I remember him most as the catcher of the Placentia Senior Men's Softball team that won the inter-town championship in the last year he played. As a catcher he could walk onto any team from the Placentia area.
